Please join us Thursday, November 1st, for our annual Fall Meeting. The meeting will be held at Grand Street Cafe, 4740 Grand Ave, Kansas City, MO. Cost to attend will be $80 per person.

Dinner: Choice of 8 oz Sirloin, Roasted Chicken, Sautéed Salmon, or Vegetarian Penne Pasta
Dessert: Choice of Brownie or Crème Brule

Our speaker will be Mary Bahna-Nolan. Mary is Executive Vice President, Head of Life R&D for SCOR Global Life. In her role, she is responsible for leading SCOR’s global research initiatives regarding mortality and policyholder behavior, and the interaction of mortality, underwriting, medical research and business development. Her presentation will be a discussion on Accelerated Underwriting.

2014 events

Dear Members,

Please join us for our annual golf outing, Thursday, September 11th. This year the event will be held at Falcon Ridge Golf Club in Lenexa.

The format will be the same 4-person team scramble with multiple flights and course prizes. The cost is $75/player, which includes: green fees, a sleeve of balls, cart rental, 2 drink tickets, unlimited range balls and a brat/burger lunch buffet. The schedule will be as follows:

Registration: 11:00 – 12:45
Lunch: 11:30 – 12:45
Shotgun Start: 1:00 – 6:00

We will need to provide a headcount to the course one week prior, so please send us the names and teams of your company by
Friday, September 5th. For those of you without a complete team, we’ll pair you with others as necessary.

In addition, we’d like your thoughts on possible future sites for this event. In the past we’ve tried to provide a variety of courses and would like to revisit some of them, or if there is a course you’d like to recommend, we’d like to hear it.

Please give this and these courses some thought. When you check in, we’d like to know what you think.

The schedule will include 3 general sessions as well as a breakfast and lunch buffet. The tentative schedule is as follows:

10:10 – 11:00: Volunteerism and the SOA (Brenna Gardino)

Please join us Wednesday, December 18th for our annual KCAC Fall/Winter Meeting.  The meeting will be held at the Grand Street Café on the Plaza.  Our guest speaker, Mark Rowley, VP and Managing Actuary at EMC National Life Company, will be presenting his professionalism topic on the “Review of the Academy’s U.S. Qualification Standards: Pointing out the Good and Discussing Needed Improvements.”  This is a great opportunity to pick up another professionalism credit before the end of the year.

The following background information will be helpful for the presentation:

1.  http://www.actuary.org/files/qualification_standards.pdf – Mark has encouraged attendees to read the entire standard, but if you have limited time, focus on Sections 1-5.

2.  http://www.actuary.org/content/us-qualification-standards-request-comments-will-comments-and-suggestions-be-made-public – Mark has also encouraged attendees to read all the comments, but if time is limited, you should focus on Tonya Manning’s comments starting at the bottom of page 2 where it says “Responses to the Committee’s Specific Questions” and reading through the end of page 8.

Private parking for the Grand Street Café is located in a parking garage below the restaurant.  The parking garage elevator will take you directly up to the restaurant.  Please print the attached document and follow the parking instructions detailed in it. A copy of this document must be placed on your dashboard to park in the restaurant parking garage.

The cost is $70 per person.

We would also like to inform you that we will be collecting membership dues in January this year to help simplify our accounting process.  Annual dues will be collected in January and a request will be sent out at that time.

Like last year, this will be an “All-You-Can-Eat” event of hotdogs, popcorn, nachos and soda.

Stop by Lot N any time between 5:00 – 7:00 for your ticket and wristband to the concessions stand and join us for a pregame spirit and/or work your way into the stadium at your leisure.

***John, Roger, Aaron and I would like to invite everyone to join us for theAugust (8/6) version of First Fridays.  We are planning on meeting at the bar in Lidias (or Jack Stack in case of emergency) to get things started around 6:00.  So if you’ve ever been interested in this event but never made it down, we’d love to have you and ANY friend/family/foe join us.  Look for our “friendly” faces!!!  We might just buy you a beverage!

It’s that time again for some golf!  Please join us for our annual outing on Wednesday, September 8th.  This year it will be held at Hillcrest Country Club.  Info for the golf course and maps/directions can be found at these links

http://www.hillcrestkc.com/The cost will be $75/golfer and includes: Lunch, 2 drink ticket, cart, GPS scoring,unlimited range balls and a sleeve of golf balls as well as the round of golf.  Lunch will be buffet style burgers and hotdogs, side dishes, ice tea, lemonade and dessert.  The drink tickets are for beer, soda and water and are good on the course and the clubhouse.

Registration begins at 11:00 a.m., lunch at 11:30 and a modified shot-gun start at 1:00.  It will be a 4-man scramble with multiple prizes out on the course.  For the benefit of a greater number of golfers, we’re going to have multiple flights paying prizes for multiple positions along with drawings giving out goodies to everyone.

We had a great turnout last year with 25 teams and hope to continue that level of participation!!

We need to provide a final headcount a week prior to the event so please respond as soon as possible and no later than Friday, August 20th with names/teams from each company.  For those of you without a complete team, we’ll pair you with others as necessary.

It is time again for our summer meeting and we hope you will join us. This all day affair will provide 6-8 hours of PD/CE credits for the low cost of $150/person. We will have three overall sessions for everyone along with 2 concurrent sets of sessions focused on either health or life/annuity topics. Feel free to move about between sessions during the day.

The event is at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel by the airport and will include a continental breakfast, buffet barbecue lunch and afternoon snacks and drinks. For those of you coming in from out of town, we have a block of rooms set aside for $89/night at the hotel. Just mention the KCAC meeting.
